I'm back into the routine of university life now after a weekend of lovely autumnal walks, starting with a day spent with my friend, Aidan. We took a walk up to Lancaster Castle and Priory which is one of my favourite spots in the city, especially in the autumn when all the leaves are falling from the trees around it. We then headed into the centre of town where I made a dash into Poundland because they sell these Haribo laces that I'm completely obsessed with, much to the detriment of my poor teeth though, according to my dentist. But hey, I think I'd rather be entirely toothless and eternally happy than vice versa.
We also called into the beautiful, huge, amazing Waterstones in town. Rookie error on Aidian's part, I don't think he was expecting for the pair of us to embark on such a lengthy perusal, but what can I say, bookshops are my fave.
After we'd finished up in town we headed back to Aidan's for a bit and watched a film called 'Case 39'. It started off pretty good, especially because it had Bradley Cooper and Renee Zellweger in it, but I was seriously unimpressed by the ending. I'd still say it's worth a watch though, plus it's on Netflix.
On Sunday I woke up with no plans so my housemate, Carlo and I ended up going to Wetherspoons for brunch followed by a trip to Williamson Park, which by the way is one mighty uphill trek away from town. In the park sits the Ashton Memorial which you can basically see from anywhere in Lancaster because it's so high up. I'd been a few times before but I never knew that you could go up inside it to the very top, which we did this time. There were really stunning views from the city from the balconies and at the top of the memorial there's a space that's sometimes used for art exhibitions. It was really peaceful and quiet and we ended up sitting there for a little while before ending the day with a drink at one of the pubs in town. Pictured above is the Diet Coke I bought as a result of me forgetting my ID...
It was a really chilled weekend which I think is what I really needed. It was also lovely to get out into the open air for a while and see a bit more of the city. What did you get up to this weekend?
Heeey! Lancaster!
ReplyDeleteSo funny, when I'm at home in the North Lancaster is one of the towns me and my friends like to go for an amazing night out. Well, others would disagree, but we think it's amazing (probably because we could haf a laugh just about anywhere). Hope you had a nice time!
